Under the Weather: The Influences of Climate Upon the Emergence and Spread of Infectious Diseases by National Academy Press,
Since the dawn of medical science, people have recognized connections between a change in the weather and the appearance of epidemic disease. With today's technology, some hope that it will be possible to build models for predicting the emergence and spread of many infectious diseases based on climate and weather forecasts. However, separating the effects of climate from other effects presents a tremendous scientific challenge. Can we use climate and weather forecasts to predict infectious disease outbreaks? Can the field of public health advance from "surveillance and response" to "prediction and prevention?" And perhaps the most important question of all: Can we predict how global warming will affect the emergence and transmission of infectious disease agents around the world? Under the Weather evaluates our current understanding of the linkages among climate, ecosystems, and infectious disease; it then goes a step further and outlines the research needed to improve our understanding of these linkages. The book also examines the potential for using climate forecasts and ecological observations to help predict infectious disease outbreaks, identifies the necessary components for an epidemic early warning system, and reviews lessons learned from the use of climate forecasts in other realms of human activity.

The Global Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases by Christopher J. L. Murray, X
The Global Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases by Christopher J. L. Murray, X
Despite the epidemiological transition, deaths from infectious diseases continue to take a heavy toll even though there have been spectacular successes in their control over the last 30 years. In the developing regions, five of the ten leading causes of death and disease burden in 1990 were infectious diseases -- respiratory infections, diarrhea, tuberculosis, measles, and malaria -- while in the developed regions the only infectious disease among the ten leading causes of death in 1990 was respiratory infections. This volume contains comprehensive data and detailed discussions of the global epidemioiogies of 23 infectious diseases, including the above-mentioned conditions as well as hepatitis B, meningitis, polio, and tetanus.

European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control - The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is an agency of the European Union that has been created to help strengthen Europe’s defences against infectious diseases, such as influenza, SARS and HIV/AIDS. The decision to set up the ECDC was taken in March 2004.

Global warming and agriculture - As global warming causes climate change, the issue of effects of global warming on agriculture due to the change in weather conditions is often invoked in arguments on the course of action involving prediction of climate events. These conditions, including temperature, radiation and water, determine the carrying capacity of the biosphere to produce enough food for the human propulation and domesticated animals.
